The Puerto Rico psychiatric Society has participated, with other mental health organizations, in the original input to the so called Code 116 of 1980. It was replaced by Law 408 in 2000 which is about to be amended by PS 1921 (Puerto Rico Senate Bill 1921).
A large consulting group to the Senate met in 2006. Public Hearing are about to begin in July 2007 on the amendments.
In 2007 a PRPS committee on Legislation has been meeting at the headquarters under Dr. Ramon Parrilla's leadership.
