good news from our Chapter

Dra. Maria Sanchez Bonilla has been reinstated as a member in the American Psychiatric Association and the Puerto Rico Psychiatric Society. She will continue to help us with Medicare issues and will also be a speaker during the Annual Meeting in November. She will address the best documentation of care to support reimbursement for psychiatric care.

Also, we have three new Members in Training joining the APA from the U of Puerto Rico Medical School. the goal of the Chief of the Psychiatry Department is to have a 100% APA membership.

And... last evening at 7:30PM Dr. Lelis Nazario addressed the problem of child abuse and neglect in Puerto Rico in our weekly radio program. She discussed the basic strategy with small children: 1) protection from the victimizer 2) promotion of trust wiht the therapist, usually an adult, that may resemble the abuser. We discussed part of an essay from Spain that included the various primitive groups in the world that have practiced filicide traditionally. Also the many examples in the Bible where children were ordered killed by authorities.

And... on on a different subject: On Monday the Puerto Rico Chapter of the APA sent the required information that will help the Membership Department calculate the new yearly dues for members in the island.
